Expect Life!
by Elizabeth Tarbox
Do not live too far in the past or the future. Live now.
In each moment expect a miracle: ten kinds of birds at the feeder, and the tracks of a fox in the snow.
Pick up a magnifying glass and scrutinize that crocus. See the pollen at the center of the daffodil, life’s dust, death-defying life. Be astonished at the flower, arrested by its beauty.
Run naked through the garden early in the morning and hope the wild geese fly by.
Get silly and laugh loudly with your grandchildren or your grandparents. Refuse to leave the dead behind, but bring their memory to all your chores and games and corners of quiet, warm tears.
Know always that joy and sorrow are woven together, one cannot be without the other. If you love, know that sometimes your love will bring you tears; if you grieve, know it is because at some time you were willing to love.

Help reach out to the community about who we are and what we do. The Southside Festival is this Saturday: 11am to 6pm at the Exchange Club Playground, 300 E. Mansion St, Jackson. We’ll have a table and give-aways. We need three more volunteers for the 1pm-3pm slot or the 2:30pm-5pm slot. Please contact Ann Green greenannm517@gmail.com or in person!
August 2nd is Favorite Things Sunday: It’s all about what we love. Bring your favorite thing or a picture of it, and say why it’s important to you – or, someone could speak for you. It’s a time to learn about each other!
Jackson County Immigrant Coalition: Many members of the congregation have expressed interest in joining the JCIC. Due to the nature of the coalition’s work with vulnerable people, the first step to getting involved is to fill out a secure vetting form. Please visit the JCIC linktree to access that form: https://linktr.ee/Jackson_County_For_Immigrants (the form is the second link from the top). Feel free to explore the other helpful links on the page. If you have any questions, reach out to Megan (in person or email meganmonkey@gmail.com).
A New UU Hymnal! Our two printed hymnals have old favorites, but the UUA has a new hymnal and it’s not printed; it’s online! Sing Out Love is a collection of music for services that includes some old favorites and many new selections, with more being added all the time. And you have access to it. Go to singoutlove.org/song-library, log in with the ID uuliberty@gmail.com and the password Eliberty1856. Make a suggestion for what you’d like to sing at church!
Worship Committee seeks speakers: Do you have an idea for a service, or a willingness to take us on your spiritual journey? Or do you know someone in the community who would? Please contact Darrin Palmer or another member of the Worship Committee. They are happy to help create a Sunday Service!
Social Mission Designee:
The Social Mission Designee for the 1st quarter is the Jackson County Immigrant Coalition (JCIC).
