People We Have Lost

People We Have Lost in 2026

Jane Volk

5/2/26
Jane Volk was not just a member of UUCEL. She was one of the people who quietly made it work. She served. She led. She showed up, including serving in many leadership roles at the church. She cared about people, as is evident in her long teaching career. She also spoke up about justice—about inequality, about clean water, about the kind of world we are shaping together. She understood that faith is not just something we think about. It’s something we live.

Dorothy Kerr

5/30/2026
Lifelong member, Dorothy Kerr, had dedicated her whole life to our church, whether she was engaged in committee work, volunteering, cleaning out the basement, changing lightbulbs, painting, or just puttering around. That’s not even including her many years as a student going to school in the school house next door. In her later years, she often spoke about her memories here and how much she cherished this congregation. This church was her great love – her sanctuary, her place of peace, second only to her garden.

Fred Marshall

8/29/26
Fred was a warm, gentle, compassionate soul, and he lived his life with curiosity, wonder, humor, and passion, and was known for his patience, his kindness, and his loyalty. Fred was always ready to lend a hand, not only at church, but also in others ways as well – especially with the animals he loved so much.

Carole Hartsuff

11/14/26
Carole loved her family first and foremost. She also served the church by being on many committees, helping with fundraisers, and attending weekly services. Her creative side came out in her holiday decorating, especially the costumes she made for her kids at Halloween. Gardening was another activity she enjoyed. Her love of her horses was also a lifelong passion. She was a devoted and loving person, and could always be counted on when a friend needed help.
